Annual Awards of the Academy of Design of the Czech Republic Czech Grand Design 2009 Awards - Designers of the Year 2009

Press release, Prague, February 23, 2010 - An exhibition of works and objects from the Designers of the Year 2009 who received awards at the fourth Annual Awards of the Academy of Design of the Czech Republic / Czech Grand Design 2009 Awards and who were nominated by the Academy of Design of the Czech Republic, i.e. a free association of experts (curators, theoreticians, and journalists with the exception of active designers) in the following categories: Designer of the Year – the Award of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, Graphic Designer of the Year, Fashion Designer of the Year, and the Photographer of the Year.

The exhibition, entitled Czech Grand Design 2009 – Designers of the Year 2009, presents the productions of designers from first through sixth place in the above-mentioned categories and enables the visitor to get a complex picture of the Czech designer scene in 2009.

The younger generation of designers is, apart from other names, represented by HipposDesign, Lucie Koldová, and René Šulc in the category of Designer of the Year – the Award of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. New trends in graphic design will be demonstrated through six works from the best graphic designers and studios, e.g. Petr Babák / Laboratoř, oficina, and Štěpán Malovec. Visitors will have an opportunity to admire the idea of beauty depicted in photos by Ester Havlová, Bára Prášilová, and Robert Vano, plus find fashion inspiration through jewelry by Eva Jiřičná, fashions by Jakub Polanka, the designer duo of Chatty, and other nominees.

The winner in a new category entitled the Czech Grand Design 2009 Award of the Public – selected across the categories of Designer of the Year, Fashion Designer of the Year, Graphic Designer of the Year, and Photographer of the Year through sms or online voting at www.czechgranddesign.cz – will also be presented at the exhibition.

As usual, the main partner of this year of annual awards is Česká spořitelna, which has supported the project of Czech Grand Design since its beginning. The winner in the category Discovery of the Year – Česká spořitelna Award will receive a check for CZK 50,000.
