The case of Eva Michalakova became a symbol of demonstrations across Europe

Brussels/Prague – On Saturday May 30, several European cities will be affected by demonstrations against the practices of the Norwegian social service and authorities. There will be also a large demonstration taking place in Prague on Hradčanské náměstí. A parade of demonstrators will head from here to the Norwegian embassy in order to manifest their dissatisfaction with the situation.

The wave of disapproval with the Norwegian activities was triggered by the possibility of adoption of the children of Eva Michaláková.
"The demonstration will take place not only in Prague but also in Brno, London, Oslo, Moscow, Warsaw, Vilnius, Dublin, Bratislava and Edinburg," says Tomáš Zdechovský, Member of the European Parliament (EPP). On June 2nd, there will be a round table conference taking place in the European Parliament that will be directed at the case of Mrs Michaláková and other parents.
"What happened to Mrs Michaláková can happen to anybody, who lives in Norway. They are falsely accused and instead of apology, their child is taken away because of media attention such injustice has been done to the Czech citizens during the Second World War," Zdechovský explains his reasons for his interest in the subject. Zdechovský has been working on cases of children taken away since last June.
"Although the Norwegians have repeatedly claimed that adoption of the Czech children was not about to happen and they promised to improve the way they communicate, suddenly there is news that the adoption is back on the table. Their communication has not been improved whatsoever," Zdechovský commented on the newest development.
The planned demonstration is not taking place for the first time in the Czech Republic. Last year, on November 18th, the demonstrators met in front of the Norwegian embassy and signed a petition for return of children to Eva Michaláková, who has been fighting for her children for past 4 years.

Dissatisfaction with the Norwegian social system is also manifested by the Norwegians themselves. MEP Tomáš Zdechovský will attend the demonstration directly in Oslo. "I want to show my support to Eva Michaláková in the epicentre of the whole case. I will also support all the other families that lost their children due to Norwegian social system. This is fight not only for the two Czech boys, bot for hundreds of children. We cannot tolerate such thing in a democratic Europe. Instead of apology, Norway wants to offer the children of Mrs Michaláková for adoption. This is an absolute atrocity that does not have place in democratic countries," Zdechovský added. He promised to fight Norway alongside other MEPs.

Independence of Norwegian authorities is doubtful
Evidence shows that there is a systemic error in Norway. Children are often taken away based on incomplete information or doubtful testimony of witnesses. Zdechovský and his colleagues are convinced that in the case of Eva Michaláková, Barnevernet made a mistake which it is not willing to admit. Instead of cooperation with family, they opted for taking away their children and forcing them for adoption.
"The psychologists who created reportedly independent opinions were partners or lovers who lived together. Therefore, they are not that independent," Zdechovský stresses. The MEP personally visited the Norwegian Parliament and initiated an open letter of the Member of the European Parliament to Norway.
